The Australian government has officially announced its intention to host the upcoming 2032 Summer Olympics in Queensland.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who is visiting Japan, said in a meeting with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach on the 17th, "The Australian government promised to fully support Queensland's bid to host the Olympics."
In addition to Australia, countries that have expressed or expressed interest in hosting the 2032 Olympics to the IOC include the two Koreas, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Qatar, Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands.
In the case of Australia, the Queensland government had originally planned to submit a letter of intent to host the Olympics to the IOC in May, but postponed it due to its response to the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
In a meeting with Bach, Prime Minister Morrison introduced Queensland-led Brisbane as the best venue for the Olympics and reiterated that he is working closely with state authorities.
Australian Health Minister Greg Hunt also said he supports Japan's push to host a "safe" Tokyo Olympics in July and August next year amid the Corona 19 epidemic, adding that Australia will also participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
The Tokyo Olympics were scheduled to take place this year, but were postponed by one year to next year following the global trend of Corona 19.
Despite the recent realization of the "third trend" of Corona 19 in Japan, the IOC plans to hold the Tokyo Olympics next year as planned, regardless of whether or not the vaccine will be released.
IOC officials, including Chairman Bach, visited Japan for a four-day visit from the 15th to inspect the Corona 19 quarantine measures related to the Olympics and local stadium facilities.
Following Tokyo, the 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris, France, and the 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, the U.S.
John Coates, president of the Australian Olympic Committee, said, "The venue for the Olympic Games in the year of the year will be decided by 2022 at the latest."
