The leaders of Australia and France have decided to cover up the "Okus" conflict. He vowed a fresh start.
According to AFP and France 24, French President Emmanuel Macron and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held talks at the Elysee Palace in France on the 1st (local time).
French President Emmanuel Macron and new Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met at the Elysee Palace in Paris on the 1st (local time) to strengthen their commitment to restore trust.
Asked if Albanese Prime Minister should apologize, President Macron said, "He is not responsible, according to Reuters. We will talk about the future, not the past."
"Trust, respect and honesty are important," Mr. Albanese said. President Macron emphasized, "The strategic partnership between the two countries and the common interest in stabilizing the Pacific region."
In addition, Prime Minister Albanese arrived at the Elysee Palace on the same day and said, "My coming here marks a new beginning of our national relations."
"The relationship between Australia and France is important. Trust, respect and honesty are important. This is how I approach my relationship with France," AFP and France 24 reported.
In Australia, the two leaders also shared their opinions on strategies against China, response to climate change, and support for Ukraine.
Earlier on September 15 last year, Australia was fiercely confronted with the AUKUS, a security alliance between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia during the time of its predecessor, Scott Morrison.
Australia decided to receive nuclear-powered submarine technology from the U.S. and the U.K. in September last year, and canceled a 56 billion euro contract with France to build 12 diesel submarines.
France, which was caught off guard, was furious, saying, "The contract is broken."
Since then, Albanese has taken office and frozen relations have begun to unravel. The two countries agreed earlier this month to pay a penalty of 555 million euros.
The inauguration of Prime Minister Albanese is easing the conflict between the two countries.
